Care Earth was founded in Chennai in the year 2000 as an association of scientists with the mission of conserving biodiversity for human well being through research, advocacy and capacity building. The logo of Care Earth encapsulates the mission where all life forms are portrayed as being linked in their existence.

Apart from the departments or agencies of the Central and State Governments, Care Earth works with a multitude of organizations like industrial bodies, welfare organizations, consumer and civic organizations, other non-governmental organizations, self help groups and academic institutions to further its mission of creating a healthy planet. For instance, Care Earth is the scientific advisor to CARITAS, India that has supported post-tsunami coastal restoration program in Pondicherry and Cuddalore. It is a partner of the University of Freiburg (Germany) in flood mapping and mitigation studies in the south Chennai suburbs. Care Earth serves as an advisor to the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras for managing the ecology of the campus. It is represented as an expert in the High Level Committee established by the Government of Tamil Nadu to oversee the implementation of the Adyar Creek restoration programme.

Over the last seven years, Care Earth has evolved to be an equal opportunity, non-discriminating organization. The trust is constituted of people who are not only subject experts, but are also well known for their integrity and commitment to science and human welfare. Prof. N. V. Joshi, Dr. P.S.Easa, Dr. R. J. Ranjit Daniels and Dr. Jayshree Vencatesan are the trustees of Care Earth.

Care Earth provides opportunities for students and researchers to improve their skills in identification of plants and animals, wildlife studies and ecological restoration. Scientific studies undertaken by Care Earth have led to the declaration of a major part of the Pallikaranai Marsh as a Reserve Forest and in the rehabilitation of villages land-locked within the Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary. The following are the aims and objectives of Care Earth:
